NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
V SURREY at Welbeck (Royal One-Day London Cup)
23 AUGUST 2022
At various stages last Friday, Surrey seemed on course to cause
an upset against Gloucestershire, but it wasn't to be. So, it will
be interesting to see how the South Londoners' junior section fairs against a side
that has just blown away Leicestershire to keep alive hopes of
sneaking into the knockout phase of the Royal London.
So often in my assessments of the opposition, I start with the
batting. But such is the strength of Nottinghamshire's attack, let's
get straight to it.
Brett Hutton - who made a token appearance for Surrey v Sri
Lanka's Development XI earlier this season - is on fire at the
moment; fresh from bagging 7-26 against the Foxes, which has
taken his haul in this summer's Royal London to 16 wickets at 15.00
runs apiece.
Slow left-armer Liam Patterson-White (9 wickets at 22.11) has not
only been a partnership breaker, he's also been frugal with it. The
support cast - Zak Chappell (13 at 24.46), South African Dane
Paterson (10 at 28.80) and 18-year-old spinner Fateh Singh (8 at
30.00) - aren't exactly shabby either.
Nottinghamshire's runs in the Royal London have been shared around between Haseeb
Hameed (299 at an average of 59.80), Sol
Budinger (270 at 45.00), Ben Slater (246 at 41.00) and Matthew
Montgomery (233 at 38.83), with Patterson-White chipping in.
Surrey v
Nottinghamshire - List
A Records Sheet
Nottinghamshire's Haseeb
Hameed (962) is approaching 1,000 List A career runs, while Dan
Paterson looks set to make his 100th List A appearance.
Surrey have named the same squad as lined-up
prior to Gloucestershire's visit to the capital last Friday. As
there's little riding on this game, the question is whether the Oval
outfit will hand a debut to Tim Lloyd.

The hosts' bowling attack
not only looks very potent, it's also the major difference between
the two sides. Prediction - Nottinghamshire to be in contention for
a quarter-final place with a win.
