NOTTINGHAMSHIRE V SURREY at Trent Bridge
(LVCC1), 18-21 JULY 2012
Surrey have not lost a
championship game at Trent Bridge since 1992. If the weather
forecast is anything to go by, that run is unlikely to be broken
this week. That said, Nottinghamshire will be a big test for the
visitors' beleaguered young line-up.
Just four of the Surrey
contingent have
more than one first-class hundred under their belts - Gareth Batty,
Steven Davies, Zander de Bruyn and Matthew Spriegel - a prospect
that should have Andre Adams (46 championship wickets at 15.52 runs
apiece this season) licking his lips.
With the bat, Nottinghamshire
are still to see the best of Alex Hales, Samit Patel and James
Taylor over four days. Nevertheless, Michael Lumb (654 runs at an
average of 40.87), Chris Read (558 at 50.72), Riki Wessels (437 runs
at 54.62)
and Adam Voges (55.66) are all averaging over forty in the championship.
Gareth Batty has 97 first-class wickets for
Surrey, while Chris Tremlett needs 21 runs for 2,000 in all f-c
cricket. Of the likely Nottinghamshire line-up, Andre Adams has 46
first-class wickets this season. Harry Gurney, with 45, is
approaching 50 f-c wickets, while Samit Patel wants three more for
150. With the bat, Riki Wessels currently has 993 first-class runs for Notts.
Jade Dernbach (side strain), Rory Hamilton (compassionate leave),
Arun Harinath (right thumb), Kevin Pietersen and Gary Wilson (both on
international duty) are ruled out, so Chris Jordan, Tim Linley and
Matthew Spriegel are named in Surrey's 13-man squad.

With a weather forecast for the next four days that suggests this
game will be lucky to bear witness to 150 overs of action, you
wouldn't expect me to predict anything other than a draw now, would
you?
