LANCASHIRE
LIGHTNING v SURREY LIONS at Old Trafford
(CB 40 League), 23 MAY 2010
With four batsmen averaging over fifty in this season's Clydesdale Bank
40League, it is not difficult to see where Lancashire's strength lies.
Stephen Moore is leading the way, thanks to tons against Surrey and
Worcestershire. Then comes Ashwell Prince, who struck an unbeaten 102 in
the seven-wicket victory over Glamorgan, while Steven Croft and Paul
Horton currently occupy third and fourth in the Lightning's one-day
batting averages. It must be a concern, however, that Mark Chilton and Tom
Smith haven't come to the party as yet with the bat.
But since losing narrowly to the Lions, when these two sides met at
Whitgift, the Old Trafford outfit have also suffered setbacks at the hands
of Somerset (by 42 runs) and Sussex (by 39 runs). The main reason has been
the inconsistency their attack has shown with the ball. Not only have the
bowlers leaked runs, but wickets have also been in short supply. Sajid
Mahmood has arguably been the pick, even though he has missed a couple of
games, but the prospect of James Anderson coming in for this game (at the
request of the England management) could be the tonic the Lightning have
been looking for.

v Lancashire List A Records sheet at at the start of the 2010 season.
Surrey's Steven Davies is approaching 2,500 List A career runs. He
currently has 2,469. Lancashire's Glen Chapple has 299 List A career
wickets while the Lightning's wicketkeeper, Luke Sutton goes into this
match with 197 List A dismissals.
Gareth Batty (hamstring) joins Michael Brown (left elbow), Chris Jordan
(back) and Stuart Meaker (left ankle) on the injury list, so his place
could go seamer Tim Linley, who was named in the Lions' squad for this
weekend's CB40 fixtures. Wicketkeeper Steven Davies is available for
selection again following his successful appearance for the England Lions
against Bangladesh at Derby, in which he made 81 and claimed eight
dismissals with the gloves.

Surrey haven't tasted victory at Old Trafford since 1996 in one-day
cricket and they only just outfought the Lightning at Whitgift recently,
so this will be a severe test - Lanky to edge it.
