DURHAM
V SURREY at Gosforth (Royal One-Day London Cup)
4 AUGUST 2022
A repeat of last year's semi-final, which Durham won with 15
balls and 5 wickets to spare. Surrey head north having lost their
opening Royal London fixture to Leicestershire at Guildford, while,
for the hosts, this will be their first outing in the competition.
Durham's warm-up match, against Lincolnshire at Grantham, saw
them run the rule over a number of fringe players - of whom only
off-spinner George Drissell and seamer Oliver Gibson put forward
cases for regular inclusion in the absence of Ben Raine, who is
involved in The Hundred.
The hosts' batting has been augmented by the signing of
Australia's Nic Maddinson, who made 12 T20 appearances for Surrey in
2018, scoring 245 runs at an average of 35.00.
Going by last year's Royal London, Graham Clark (646 runs at
80.75), Alex Lees and Sean Dickson are Durham's trump cards with the
bat. However, Lees is unlikely to be risked ahead of England's
forthcoming Test series against South Africa.
With the ball, the ever-reliable Chris Rushworth (17 wickets at
19.29 last summer) looks likely to share the billing with Paul
Coughlin, plus spinners Scott Borthwick and Liam Trevaskis.
Surrey v
Durham - List
A Records Sheet
If he plays, 19-year-old
seamer Nathan Barnwell will be making his Surrey first-team debut.
Ryan Patel, having made 0 against
Leicestershire, remains 57 runs shy of 500 List A career runs. The
possible List A debutants for Durham include Jonathan Bushnell,
Oliver Gibson, Tom Mackintosh and Stanley McAlindon.
Surrey have named the same 12-man squad as
lined-up against Leicestershire on Tuesday, so the only possible
change could be Nathan Barnwell coming in.

Surrey's List A record against Durham since
the turn of the century has been pretty woeful - just 3 wins out of
the last 12 meetings that have gone the distance - and their lack of
experience inevitably means expectations are low. There's always a
chance, but, all things being equal, expect the hosts to get their
Royal London campaign underway with a victory.
