JUST
EIGHT OVERS POSSIBLE AT CARDIFF by Marcus Hook
Glamorgan 19-0 v Surrey.
Just 32 minutes of action was possible on the
opening day of Surrey's visit to the SWALEC Stadium, during which
Glamorgan progressed to 19 without loss in the space of eight overs
after losing the toss and being invited to bat.
A combination of showers and bad light delayed the
start until 4.15pm. In the first over Gareth Rees angled the fit
again Chris Tremlett down to third man for four. Mark Cosgrove
survived two big shouts for lbw in the next over, bowled by Tim
Linley, when first he looked to work the ball to leg and then chose
to pad up.
In the sixth over, the Australian left-hander got
off the mark with a four through extra cover. But then, at 4.47pm,
at the end of Linley's fourth over, the players were forced to take
shelter from the rain.
Surrey made four changes to the side that was
victorious at Northampton. Younis Khan, making his debut for the
Oval outfit - and who is expected to open the batting - came in for
Matthew Spriegel. Chris Schofield yielded to Gareth Batty, while, in
the seam department, Chris Tremlett and Stuart Meaker replaced Tom
Jewell and Andre Nel, who is serving the first of the two-match ban
imposed on him by Surrey for disciplinary reasons.
The Welshmen opted for just one change of
personnel with Huw Waters being preferred to Will Owen, who failed
to pick up any wickets in Glamorgan's resounding victory at
Leicester; which kept them top of Division Two of the LV County
Championship.
